The whale shark eats only krill, plankton, and small fish. Although it is the largest fish in the world and its huge mouth contains thousands of teeth, they are so tiny that they are useless for biting, ripping, or crushing. The mouth serves as a funnel to channel floating prey down its gullet. (Rhincodon typus)
